Occupational health is the joint responsibility of employers and workers. This is required by law.

Occupational physician Norvil Mera emphasizes the importance of both parties committing to adopting preventive measures that benefit both staff and the company. Currently, there is a greater demand for occupational physicians, not only because regulations require it, but also because employers and employees, in particular, are increasingly becoming aware that exposure to risks within the company where they work can result in a work-related illness or accident. Furthermore, any illness or mishap affecting the employee, apart from causing a decline in their performance or productivity at work, will end up altering their future life plan and quality of life, said the national secretary of Peru of the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), Norvil Mera Chu, in statements to the Official Gazette El Peruano .
